Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Protocol, the iOS and Android wellness self-experimentation app operated by AppEcho Labs LLC(“AppEcho Labs,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), and the website at runprotocol.app.
1. Acceptance of These Terms
By creating an account, using Protocol, joining the waitlist, purchasing a subscription, or otherwise accessing the Service, you agree to these Terms and to any additional terms presented in the app or by the Apple App Store or Google Play. If you do not agree, do not use Protocol.
Protocol is available only to adults who are at least 18 years old. The app is age-gated for adults. You may not create an account or use the Service if you are under 18.
2. What Protocol Does
Protocol helps adults turn wellness and health-related claims into structured, short-term self-experiments. Users may paste a claim as text, a URL, or pasted content. Protocol uses an AI service, Anthropic's Claude API, to structure the claim into a proposed 21-day self-experiment.
With your explicit permission, Protocol reads selected health and fitness data from Apple HealthKit on iOS and Google Fit on Android, including sleep, heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, steps, active energy, mindfulness minutes, and body metrics. Protocol uses that data to compute baselines, statistical comparisons, and a verdict such as keep, drop, run longer, or inconclusive.
Protocol's backend uses Firebase services, including Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Storage. Subscriptions are managed through RevenueCat and billed through Apple App Store or Google Play purchases. Authentication is provided through Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In.
3. Not Medical Advice
Protocol is not a medical device, healthcare provider, diagnostic tool, treatment, cure, clinical decision tool, or substitute for a licensed medical professional. Protocol does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any disease or condition.
Protocol is for informational wellness and self-experimentation purposes only. The Service may help you organize a personal wellness experiment and compare your own data over time, but it cannot tell you what is medically safe, medically appropriate, or clinically effective for you.
Always consult a licensed physician, pharmacist, dietitian, mental health professional, or other qualified professional before making medical decisions, changing medication, starting or stopping a supplement, changing treatment, or taking action based on Protocol. If you think you may have a medical emergency, call emergency services immediately.
Protocol must not be used to test prescription medications, diagnose or manage conditions under medical care, replace clinician guidance, or test anything that requires lab work or medical supervision.
4. Assumption of Risk
You are responsible for the wellness routines, supplements, behaviors, diet changes, sleep routines, exercise plans, or other interventions you choose to test. You understand that even common wellness activities and supplements can cause side effects, interact with medications, worsen a condition, or be inappropriate for some people.
Protocol may suggest a structure for an experiment, but you decide whether to run it. You agree to use your own judgment, stop any intervention that feels unsafe, and seek professional advice when appropriate.
5. Eligibility and Accounts
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to agree to these Terms. You agree to provide accurate account information, including information used for age gating and account access, and to keep that information current.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Protocol supports Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In. Notify us promptly at support@runprotocol.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
6. Subscriptions, Billing, Free Trials, and Cancellation
Some Protocol features may require a paid subscription. Available plans, prices, subscription periods, and any free-trial terms are shown in the app before purchase. Prices may vary by country, currency, platform, promotion, and store rules.
Subscriptions are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, with RevenueCat used to manage subscription status and app entitlements. We do not store your full payment card number. Your purchase is also subject to the applicable Apple App Store or Google Play terms, payment rules, refund rules, and cancellation process.
If you purchase through Apple, payment will be charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current subscription period. Your Apple ID account may be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, and you can manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple ID account settings.
If you purchase through Google Play, payment will be charged to your Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled before the renewal date under Google Play's rules. You can manage or cancel the subscription in your Google Play account settings.
If a free trial is offered, the trial length and conversion terms will be disclosed before sign-up. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the subscription may convert to a paid auto-renewing subscription. Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals but does not automatically delete your Protocol account or data.
7. Acceptable Use and Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- use Protocol if you are under 18 or on behalf of anyone under 18;
- use Protocol for medical diagnosis, treatment, clinical decision-making, emergency care, prescription medication testing, or conditions under medical care;
- submit content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, deceptive, infringing, or that violates another person's rights;
- interfere with, scrape, overload, reverse engineer, or attempt to bypass the security, billing, entitlement, or access controls of the Service;
- use automated systems to access the Service in a way that creates unreasonable load or degrades the Service for others;
- upload malware or attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, system, data, or network; or
- use Protocol in violation of law, third-party platform terms, or these Terms.
8. Intellectual Property and User Data
The Service, including the Protocol name, design, software, interfaces, graphics, text, workflows, and other content, is owned by AppEcho Labs LLC or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited rights needed to use the Service, we do not grant you any ownership interest in Protocol.
You retain your rights in the content and data you provide to Protocol, including pasted claims, notes, check-ins, and health data you authorize the app to access. You grant us a limited license to process, store, transmit, display, analyze, and otherwise use that data as needed to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the Service, subject to our Privacy Policy.
If you send feedback or suggestions, you allow us to use them without restriction or compensation, but we are not required to use them.
9. Third-Party Services
Protocol relies on third-party services, including Apple, Google, Anthropic AI, Firebase and Google Cloud, and RevenueCat. Their terms, privacy policies, platform rules, and availability may also apply to your use of Protocol. We are not responsible for third-party services that we do not control.
Apple HealthKit and Google Fit permissions are controlled by your device and platform account settings. App Store and Google Play purchases, cancellations, and refunds are controlled by the applicable store.
10. AI-Generated Content
Protocol uses AI to help structure experiments and generate summaries, explanations, and verdict language. AI-generated content can be wrong, incomplete, outdated, misleading, or inappropriate for your circumstances. Statistical outputs can also be affected by missing data, device errors, inconsistent behavior, confounding factors, or normal biological variation.
You should treat Protocol's experiments and verdicts as informational outputs to review critically, not as professional judgment, medical advice, or instructions to take or stop any action.
11. Disclaimers of Warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Protocol is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. We disclaim all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that Protocol will be accurate, reliable, uninterrupted, secure, error-free, compatible with every device, available in every location, or able to produce a useful verdict for every experiment.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and other applicable law, AppEcho Labs LLC and its members, managers, employees, contractors, agents, service providers, and licensors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, personal injury, health-related decisions, or substitute services, arising from or related to your use of Protocol.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid for Protocol through the app stores during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
13. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless AppEcho Labs LLC and its members, managers, employees, contractors, agents, service providers, and licensors from any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or related to your misuse of Protocol, your violation of these Terms, your violation of law, your content, or health and wellness decisions you make outside the Service.
14. Suspension and Termination
You may stop using Protocol at any time. The app supports in-app data export and account deletion. We may suspend or terminate your access if we believe you violated these Terms, created risk for other users or the Service, failed to pay subscription fees, or used the Service unlawfully.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, and dispute-resolution provisions.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as Protocol evolves or as legal, technical, or business needs change. If changes are material, we will provide notice in a reasonable way, such as in the app or by email. The updated Terms will state their effective date. Continued use of Protocol after updated Terms become effective means you accept the updated Terms.
16. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to any final dispute-resolution provision approved by legal counsel, the state and federal courts located in Virginia will have jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms or the Service.
Attorney review required: AppEcho Labs should have counsel decide whether to add, remove, or revise a binding arbitration provision, class-action waiver, small-claims carveout, opt-out process, venue language, and consumer-law exceptions before publication.

Protocol is operated by AppEcho Labs LLC, Alexandria, VA 22304. For questions about these Terms, contact support@runprotocol.app.
